PRESS RELEASE

sunsetting reflects on labor, the production of value, and the junction whereat economic growth and continuity diverge.
Works in the show make use of and respond to a series of now-obsolete technologies that I’ve been tasked to maintain in the past. As a function of my studio practice, these works are inscribed with countless hours invested into W2 and 1099 work that I’ve used to support myself as an artist living in New York. In lieu of metabolizing this time as time lost from the studio, I’ve invested in transposing it onto the studio (or vice versa).

The objects in the exhibition – they are in various states of disrepair. They’ve encountered a ceiling of functionality imposed by various factors; climate change, market falloff, overuse, etc. This exhibition collects varying instances in which I’ve encountered what I would call pre-obsolescence. This is another way of saying these technologies were ‘doomed to fail’. Together, they demonstrate a technological and material threshold that exposes the limits of Infinite Growth.
