Constanza Camila Kramer Garfias
b. Viña del Mar, Chile, 1988Lives and works in Munich, Germany

Constanza Camila Kramer Garfias draws on her background in philosophy and textile design to create sculptural works of fiber art. She approaches textiles as both an artistic medium and a form of research, examining how they have historically conveyed territorial power, domination, and colonial control. Through fabric, Kramer Garfias renders these structures tangible in order to interrogate and dismantle them. Her works treat the textile as both a pictorial field and a material system, bringing digital translation into dialogue with artisanal knowledge. Central to her practice is Jacquard weaving, a technique whose programmable control of pattern is widely understood as an early precursor to computer technology.
Notable public-facing collections include a special commission for Nike (London, UK), Kunstmuseum Bern (Bern, Switzerland); Anja and Matthias Ottmann Collection (Munich, Germany); Cash App Collection (St. Louis, MO & Philadelphia, PA, USA); Anne-Céline and Pierre Donnersberg Collection (Paris, France); and the Buchberger Collection (Munich, Germany); Collection Rashid Johnson (New York City, USA); DKV Mobility Group Collection (Ratingen, Germany). She is also included in a number of notable private collections.
She has participated in institutional exhibitions at the BMW Foundation (Munich, Germany); Frauenmuseum Wiesbaden (Wiesbaden, Germany); The Museum für Gestaltung (Zürich, Switzerland); The American Tapestry Alliance at The Richard Peeler Art Center/DePauw University (Greencastle, IN, USA); Galerie der Künstler*innen (Munich, Germany); and the Takaoka Art Museum (Takaoka, Japan).
