PRESS RELEASE
(Bern) We are pleased to present Riquísimo, André Magaña’s first solo exhibition with the gallery.

This is an exhibition about the colonial, industrial, and cultural capture of the meaning of chocolate.

“Riquísimo” may imply that something is very rich – rich on the palate as one would describe the quality of fine chocolate. When ascribed to a person, place, or environment, riquísimo similarly conveys the “very-rich”-ness of that thing. In context, however, it is more appropriately translated to ‘filthy rich;’ to ‘rich as fuck.'

For someone or something to be ‘riquísimo’ their richness must stretch beyond the bounds of what can be captured with language; the suffix -ísimo expresses that boundlessness. “Riquísimidad” then, is a state of being, a description of wealth in its most concentrated, boundless form.

This is an exhibition about Mexico, Switzerland, and their entanglements.
